In its first full year as a newly merged institution, City St George’s, University of London has seen student successes, bold new initiatives and impactful events.
Over the past twelve months, the University has launched its new brand, excelled in national rankings for its focus on careers and employability, and been part of historic moments for the City of London. Read on for the highlights of 2025:
City St George’s, University of London launched following a historic merger
While the legacy institutions City, University of London and St George’s, University of London officially merged on 1 August 2024, this year marked the launch of its ambitious new brand.
City St George’s, University of London held its public launch in March 2025 with an interdisciplinary event that explored the relationship between AI and healthcare.
A panel of experts from across the University’s six schools explored the theme of ‘How can AI contribute to the future health of the nation.’ At the event, Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, President of City St George’s, said:
City St George’s ranked in top 10 in UK for graduate salaries and high-skilled jobs
City St George’s, University of London was ranked among the UK’s top 10 universities for graduate salaries and high-skilled jobs in the Daily Mail University Guide 2026, confirming its status as one of the country’s most career-focused institutions.
The University also placed 26th overall out of 128 ranked institutions, a strong result for the newly merged university in its first full year. At a subject-level, the University was ranked 1st nationally for both Biomedical Sciences and Anatomy and made the top 10 for Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Health Science, AI, and Business Studies.

The University launched its annual sustainability report
City St George’s launched its annual sustainability report as the city marked London Climate Action Week.
The 2024 Sustainability Annual Report highlighted the University’s progress towards sustainability and showcased how the university community was responding to one of society’s greatest challenges.
City St George’s also launched a Sustainability Strategic Transformation programme, aiming to embed sustainability across the institution, from curriculum design to carbon reporting.
Thousands of City St George’s students graduated at summer ceremonies
Students celebrated their academic achievements in July with summer graduation ceremonies held at London’s Barbican Centre. Spanning over two weeks, the ceremonies brought together graduates from the University's Clerkenwell, Moorgate, and Tooting campuses. For the first time, performing arts graduates from Urdang joined the Barbican graduations.
The ceremonies also recognised outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. For fellow law graduate Umar Farooq, the occasion marked a powerful personal achievement.
City St George’s joined nine other universities to form a collaborative to strengthen the UK higher education sector. ResearchPlus aims to amplify the collective voice or researched-focused universities including University of Sussex, The Open University and Ulster University among others. The collaborative was formally launched at a Parliamentary event in Westminster in October.

Lifetime career support launched for graduates
The Careers & Employability team at City St George’s, University of London (Clerkenwell campus) announced a significant enhancement to its employability offer: lifetime careers support for all graduates.
From navigating job searching for the first time to pivoting careers, to exploring postgraduate study – alumni now have ongoing access to expert guidance from the University’s Careers & Employability Service no matter what year they graduated.
“This is about more than just getting that first job,” said Helen Kempster, Deputy Director of Careers & Employability at City St George’s.
‘Black Women on the Couch’ launched at City St George’s to spotlight mental health and healing
The inaugural ‘Black Women on the Couch’ event took place in October, featuring an inspiring panel of expert women. The first-of-its-kind gathering highlighted Black women's mental health as part of Black Futures Month celebrations at the University.
Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Kiren Chima, said the event was an opportunity for staff and students to come together for a shared purpose. “We need to elevate voices, raise awareness and remove the stigma attached to talking about mental health and wellbeing. We need to be seen and heard and speak up proudly so we can influence change for future generations,” said Kiren.
Students joined the historic procession for the first ever Lady Mayor’s Show
The first woman to be named Lady Mayor of the City of London, Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE, made history in November with the first ever Lady Mayor’s Show.
As Lady Mayor, Dame Susan will also serve as Rector for City St George’s and will be formally installed at the University’s winter graduation in January 2026.
Students joined the three-mile-long procession, parading alongside a red Routemaster bus, as the new Lady Mayor made her first public engagement. On the celebrations, Dr Sionade Robinson said: “We're proud of the special relationship between our University and the City of London, ‘unsquaring’ the Square Mile. We look forward to working with Lady Mayor Dame Susan as our Rector in the coming year.”
