Students from City St George’s, University of London, celebrated their academic achievements in July with summer graduation ceremonies held at London’s Barbican Centre.

Spanning over two weeks, the ceremonies brought together graduates from the University's Clerkenwell, Moorgate, and Tooting campuses. Held between Monday 14 July and Wednesday 30 July, the events marked a milestone accomplishment for students across a wide range of disciplines.

The ceremonies also recognised outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields.

Students, friends and families travelled from across the UK and beyond to take part in the celebrations. Among them was Charmaine Mnangagwa, who graduated with an LLB (Hons) Law degree on Monday 14 July.

"There’s a lot of emotions,” she said. “As an international student, I would tell others that you only live once. I came to London with no friends, no family and I’ve made so many connections here. There’s so much community at City St George’s. Today I’m celebrating with my family who have come all the way from Zimbabwe – it’s their first time in London so we will be celebrating and exploring the city this weekend."

Charmaine plans to continue her academic journey by studying for a master’s degree at City St George’s.

For fellow law graduate Umar Farooq, the occasion marked a powerful personal achievement.

Umar Farooq

I am the first generation of my family to graduate with a degree and I feel extremely proud. My mum and dad are here with me today and they are the people I owe it to. I came here from Pakistan when I was very young and my parents have worked tirelessly their whole lives. They have been my biggest supporters while I have been at university.
