An apprenticeship offers an exciting opportunity to progress your career and learn with a real-world focus, working alongside an employer to create value for yourself and the business.
Application details for each programme differ, but there are some common preparations you can make for your application.
If you are already working, then talk to your employer about the relevant apprenticeship standard provided by City St George's (the training provider) that matches your role and direct them to our apprenticeship section. For businesses, City St George's apprenticeships are available using apprenticeship levy funding.
As a full-time employee the terms and conditions of your role will remain the same as you begin your apprenticeship, but you will need to form an agreement with your employer to support you in time away from the workplace for study and to finish your course and qualification.
Submitting your application
All applications can be made through our self-service system (APTEM), which will ask you eligibility questions and guide you through the necessary steps to complete your submission.
If you are a good match, this will include an interview with City St George's and then an interview with your employer before a final decision is made on the apprenticeship. It will also offer alternatives at City St George's if an apprenticeship isn’t right for you.
If you are looking to undertake an apprenticeship as part of a new role or want to retrain as part of a career change, you can look at the dedicated gov.uk site and find out information on how to find an apprenticeship.
Entry requirements
- Applicants for all apprenticeships should have a full-time role that extends beyond the apprenticeship duration and have lived in the UK for three years, with a GCSE English and Maths Grade 4/C or above.
- All applicants are required to demonstrate that your ability to understand and express yourself in English is sufficient for you to be able to benefit from and participate fully in your degree
- You must be accepted by the course admissions tutor. The actual offer you receive may differ from the listed requirements as many of our courses are competitive, so the minimum requirements do not guarantee admission
- 16-years-old or over
- Not in full time education.
How to contact employers
City St George’s apprenticeships are about growing your skills and knowledge and improving business in partnership with your employer. As an apprentice, you’ll work closely with your employer on your programme to make sure the course is specific to your needs.
To find out more information on different industries and relevant employers go to the dedicated gov.uk site and find out information on how to find an apprenticeship.
As an employee, you will undertake an initial assessment to ascertain your prior learning as it relates to the apprenticeship. To confirm individual employment arrangements a document agreement is provided by The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to assist apprentices and employers.
As an apprentice you’ll be earning a wage, receiving holiday pay, working alongside experienced staff, gaining job-specific skills, and getting time for training and skills related to your role (at least 20% of your normal working hours).
