Alumni are among our greatest and most valued supporters. They help us to enhance the student experience and graduate career prospects. They lead and support regional and professional alumni networks and activities and provide valuable strategic advice and guidance to University staff.
Why volunteer with us?
- Help develop the next generation of City, St George’s students.
- Develop your own professional skills such as communication, public speaking and leadership.
- Expand your network by meeting other volunteers, alumni, St George’s students and staff.
- Opportunities to promote your work, career path, or business.
- The feel good factor of helping others.
Our alumni volunteers give back something of real value back to the university. Our alumni’s knowledge and experience of life after graduation is more valuable than ever. Alumni volunteering provides our students with a unique opportunity to engage with people who have been in their shoes and know the challenges they face.
Your advice and guidance can help our students to develop their employability skills, their insight into the working world, and their own knowledge and understanding of how to be successful. As a City, St George's graduate, you are instantly relatable to them as they aspire to build the same successful careers and find out more about how they can use their degree after graduation. As alumni, you are inspiring, relatable role models for our students, with the ability to help them make the most of their university experience.

Give careers advice and guidance
The insight you are able to provide on your course, and your career since, can be of huge value to those considering a career in health, science or research, and the best path to take.
Whether you speak about your career path as part of a panel session, complete an alumni career profile, or give a talk on your specialist subject, sharing your experience, advice and guidance can really help our students gain insight into different careers and consider their next steps.
Our alumni have a unique set of experiences across a huge range of topics and have pursued all sorts of different career paths, and we want our students to feel confident that they can, too.
If you are interested in providing careers support to the students following in your footsteps, please let us know by emailing the alumni office or calling 0208 266 6195.
Interview prospective students
We interview hundreds of prospective students every year through our Multiple Mini Interview process. We rely on our generous volunteers to help make this happen.
Alumni are uniquely qualified to interview prospective students and help select those who will thrive at City St George’s.
There are no specific skill requirements and full training, and you are able to commit as much or as little time as you’d like; we’ll contact you to let you know when we are organising interview days and you can pick the days and times that you are available for. Email to Development and Alumni Team to find about the training requirements for becoming an assessor, and upcoming sessions.
To find out about the next training session, please look out for updates in our e-newsletter, The Dragon, or contact the Development and Alumni Office.
If you are interested in getting involved and contribute to the student and alumni experience, please do let us know and get in touch at alumni@city.ac.uk.
