Placement programmes help to support the development of the next generation of experts in your field.

Placement partnerships with the School of Health & Medical Sciences

We work with some of London's leading providers of health and social care to provide placements for our students in Nursing, Midwifery, Speech & Language Therapy and Radiography.

Nursing and Midwifery

Placement experiences  are a vital factor in promoting understanding and development of professional craft knowledge. They help students become fit for practice, fit for purpose and fit for award by the time they complete their programme.

Placements constitute 50% of each Nursing student's programme and 60% of each Midwifery student's programme.

Each placement provides students with educational opportunities to develop their professional craft knowledge through:

  • observing good practice
  • engaging in good practice alongside a mentor and other practitioners
  • practising under the more distant supervision of a mentor or other practitioner.

Students also have time to investigate their practice, to study their patients/clients and their carers, to discuss their learning with experienced colleagues and to formulate and reformulate their understanding through writing, discussion and reading.

  • Student Placement Approval (NMC Educational audit form)

Practice Assessment Documents

Practice Assessment Documents (PAD/ePAD) for Nursing are available from the Pan London Practice Learning Group (PLPLG)

Practice Assessment Documents (PAD) for Midwifery (To be used from 2015/6 academic year)

These are for reference purpose only and NOT to be used as the assessment document.

  • Midwifery, BSc - Years One, Two and Three - Ongoing Achievement Report (OAR)
  • BSc - Year One, Midwifery Practice Assessment Document (MPAD)
  • BSc - Year Two, Midwifery Practice Assessment Document (MPAD)
  • BSc - Year Three, Midwifery Practice Assessment Document (MPAD)
  • Midwifery, Ongoing Achievement, Postgraduate Diploma - Parts One and Two
  • Midwifery, Practice Assessment Document (MPAD)

Speech and Language Therapy

We recommend that if you are part of a service outside of Greater London (i.e. Sussex, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Kent etc.) you liaise with us directly as to which cohort has students in your area.

I wholeheartedly recommend City St George's, University of London to companies seeking talented students to hire.

As the Director of Culture Hint, the leading optimization platform for venues, districts, and cities, I have had the pleasure of hiring students from City St George's, University of London.

The skills they acquired during their studies were instrumental in their success at our company. In fact, their contributions were so remarkable that a student who started as an intern is now our Software Architect.

Types of placement

We offer a number of pathways in which a student can undertake some form of work-based learning.

  • One-year sandwich placements – All undergraduates are encouraged to complete a one-year placement or summer internship as part of their course
  • Professional Pathway Scheme - Unique to City St George's, this initiative allows an undergraduate to work for up to four days a week whilst completing their degree
  • Postgraduate internship scheme - Postgraduate students are encouraged to complete an internship as part of their dissertation.

The CREU is always keen to hear from employers that are interested in discussing alternative pathways for students to undertake professional experience, including opportunities for project work.

How the CREU supports placements

The CREU supports students and employers throughout the placement to make sure that both parties are benefiting effectively from the experience. We provide comprehensive guidelines and additional support throughout the placement process from conception to completion.

Each placement student is assigned a work-based learning advisor (WLA) who will provide assistance throughout the duration of the placement by visiting the workplace and ensuring that both the student and placement provider are meeting the pre-agreed deliverables.

The CREU has a very strong relationship with students currently studying at City St George's. We have a number of ways in which we can advertise your vacancies and ensuring that you get the best quality applications.

Please contact us to discuss advertising your opportunity to our students.
