The Athena Swan bronze award was awarded to the former School of Arts and Social Sciences in December 2021. The School of Policy & Global Affairs will be applying fora renewal/Silver award in July 2026.
Athena Swan charter
City St George's is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion as detailed in its strategy launched in 2020.
As part of this commitment the School uses the Athena Swan charter framework to progress gender equality for all.
The charter was established by Advance HE in 2005. You can read more about the charter on the Advance HE website.
Bronze Award
The school was awarded a Bronze award in December 2021 in recognition of its commitment to improve gender equality.
The school was praised for its good use of quantitative and qualitative data to present a thorough self-assessment; and for its SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely) action plan.
The school was also commended on the school’s intersectional approach and its attention to ethnicity.
Particular areas for the school to focus on are:
- to ensure equitable treatment of staff through a workload allocation model
- increase the proportion of women in established academic posts
- to increase the effectiveness of training and career progression activities.
The school will next renew/apply for a Silver award in July 2026.
