Applying for a postgraduate taught degree

City St George's offers a range of master's degrees and other postgraduate taught courses. Application details differ from programme to programme, but there are some common preparations you can make for your application.

Applicants should normally hold a university honours degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject. If you don't have these but do have suitable experience and/or professional qualifications, you may still be accepted for a master's or Postgraduate Diploma at the discretion of the relevant department.

We also recognise several pre-master's programmes, in particular those provided by Kaplan International College London and INTO City, University of London.

How to apply

For most postgraduate courses applications are made directly to City St George's, usually to the department running the course, via our dedicated online system. Individual application links are provided on course pages, along with information on specific requirements for documents you should include with your application.

A step by step guide into the application process for postgraduate study at City St George's, University of London. 3:38

With a few exceptions, most postgraduate courses don't have a fixed application deadline and admissions operate on a rolling basis. Applications will close when the course is full, so it's advisable to apply as early as possible as competition for places on many courses is strong and they may be fully subscribed well before the closing date.

Where a deadline is in place, further information can be found on specific course pages.

  • Browse our courses

If you're in the final year of undergraduate studies or are yet to receive your English Language test results, you can still apply. Your application will be assessed based on predicted grades and if all other entry criteria are met, you may receive a conditional offer subject to satisfying the relevant conditional requirements.

You'll need to provide original certificates or certified copies of your relevant degrees and other qualifications before registration.

After you apply

When you submit your application, you will receive an automated confirmation email from the system to acknowledge the receipt of your application.

The relevant postgraduate admissions team and admissions tutor will check your application and documents to assess your academic background, motivations and suitability for your intended course before making a decision.

Please note that qualification documentation will be assessed as part the initial review of the application. If qualifications can not be adequately verified before the initial decision is made, any offer issued will be conditional on the provision of suitable evidence.

Although each School has its own guidelines on timeframes, it normally takes from two to six weeks for your application to be reviewed. You will then be contacted and notified of one of the following outcomes:

  • Unconditional offer. You have met all the entry requirements and we have reserved you a place on your chosen course.
  • Conditional offer. You are being offered a place on your intended course provided that you meet the requirements outlined in your offer letter. To secure your place, you will need to send us the required documents as soon as you can to show that you satisfy the conditions.
  • Interview/Selection day. You are invited to attend an interview before a final decision is made.
  • Unsuccessful. You do not meet the entry requirements and unfortunately we are unable to offer you a place.

Receiving and responding to an offer

If your application is successful, you'll receive an offer letter via email. You should read this carefully as it contains important information on the next steps and related timeline.

To accept your offer, you will need to use links provided in the offer letter to:

  1. Access the online portal and follow the offer response process
  2. Pay a non-refundable deposit, quoting the student number indicated at the top of your offer letter (a small number of courses do not require a deposit).

You will need to complete both steps by the deadline(s) stated in the letter. Late acceptances will only be permitted if there is space available. If you need more time to make a decision, you should contact the admissions team for advice.

Once you have confirmed your place and paid your deposit, we'll contact you regularly by email with further information before you start your course.

  • Accepted methods of payment, including sponsorships
  • Our policies on deposit refunds
