Public engagement is a vital part of our mission at the Tooting campus, reflecting our commitment to making research, education, and expertise accessible and relevant to everyone. Our staff, students, and partners work together to create opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning that go far beyond the classroom or laboratory.

Community and Schools Engagement
Guides and Brownies Day
On 12 March 2022, Dr Ella Rimmer, a postdoctoral researcher in IMBE and a Girl Guides leader, organised an event for Brownies and Guides in south London. Read more about the event here.
School Governors Scheme
Launched in 2020, the School Governors scheme invites staff from the School of Health & Medical Sciences to serve as school governors, supporting education provision at all stages within the local community.
Diseases, Detectives and Post-Mortems
For the last two years, the School of Health & Medical Sciences has welcomed local school students to the Pathology Museum for workshops linked to the A Level Biology curriculum. You can read more about the Pathology museum engagement.
Research and Innovation Partnerships
Pharma-Factory
A research project exploring molecular farming which is the use of plant biotechnology to develop high-value medical, veterinary, and diagnostic products. Learn more about Pharma-Factory.
Infectious Public Interest in Research

Public Talks and Outreach
Inside Science
In collaboration with HM Prison Wandsworth, staff and students deliver science talks to prisoners, exploring topical scientific issues. Find out more about Inside Science.
Spotlight on Science
Throughout the year, City St George’s will open its doors to the public for free evening events, themed around key areas of our health research. The audience will get the inside scoop from our scientists and healthcare professionals on the latest research for a wide range of topics. Previous events have focused on Global Health, cancer immunotherapy, antibiotic resistance and Covid-19, to name a few.
Previous events have covered topics like vaccinating mothers during pregnancy, among others. You can explore past talks that took place before and during the pandemic on our dedicated Spotlight on Science YouTube playlist.
