Designing equitable, inclusive learning, teaching and assessment.
At City St George’s, we are committed to creating learning experiences in which all students can participate, belong and succeed.
An inclusive curriculum recognises that students bring different experiences, perspectives and ways of learning to university. It seeks to ensure that curriculum design, teaching practices and assessment methods support all students to achieve their potential.
Our Inclusive Curriculum approach supports colleagues to embed equity, accessibility and inclusion into everyday academic practice, helping to create learning environments that are engaging, supportive and effective for all.
Why it matters
Across higher education, degree outcomes are not experienced equally.
Research consistently shows that awarding gaps between different groups of students are influenced not simply by student characteristics, but by how students experience curriculum, teaching and assessment.
Evidence from across the sector highlights the importance of:
- clear and transparent academic expectations
- fair and accessible assessment
- inclusive teaching practices
- representation and belonging within the curriculum
- supportive learning environments
An inclusive curriculum approach focuses on addressing barriers within educational practice and creating the conditions in which all students can thrive.
Our approach
City St George’s is bringing together established inclusive curriculum approaches from across our predecessor institutions to create a shared framework for the future.
Building on existing evidence-informed practice, this work reflects our commitment to educational excellence, student success and equity.
This approach promotes inclusion as a “golden thread” through our curriculum design, teaching and assessment, rather than an additional or separate activity.
By embedding inclusive practice within everyday academic work, we aim to enhance learning, improve student experience and support equitable outcomes across our diverse student community.

Case studies and practice
We are developing a collection of examples from across City St George’s that demonstrate inclusive curriculum approaches in practice.
These case studies will showcase how colleagues are embedding inclusive teaching, learning and assessment within their disciplines, and the positive impact this can have on student engagement, belonging and success.
Further examples will be added over time.
