Our courses are enriched by the research of our academic staff. 86% of City research rated as world leading 4* (40%) and internationally excellent 3* (46%) quality (based on City St George's submission to the REF).

Our focus on business, practice and the professions provides our students with opportunities for direct interaction with future employers and makes our courses relevant, exciting and topical.

Many have innovative modes of study involving placement opportunities and engagement with high-profile visiting lecturers from the professions. This complements the academic expertise offered at City St George's.

Education excellence

At City St George's we take the responsibility of delivering high-quality teaching seriously and recognise that it is important to our students.

We have an overall Silver award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023. The national scheme, run by the Office for Students (OfS), recognises our student experience and student outcomes as typically ‘very high-quality’.

City St George's was one of only 33 providers to be awarded Gold for the student outcomes aspect rating, which looks at the educational and professional outcomes of university graduates.

Our approach aims to support students in becoming professional, analytical and enquiring graduates who can play a substantial role in their professional environment.

To support learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, we established an integrated learning environment that combines physical and virtual learning spaces. This is used to support students in their studies, supplementing lectures and seminars with high quality online material.

The directorate for Learning Enhancement and Development supports our staff in creating new and responsive learning opportunities to lead our courses into the future.

As the highest academic body, Senate is responsible for City St George's academic policies and regulations. This framework aims to support high quality learning and the maintenance of academic standards that underpins our degree-awarding powers.

High quality research across a broad range of areas, making a positive impact to society, is vital to our University. It helps us build a better education for our students, secure research funding for our academic staff, and contribute to the wider world.

The results of REF2021, which assessed research quality at all UK higher education research institutions, showed City St George's making significant progress compared to the previous exercise in 2014.

Enterprise excellence

Our academic community has a wealth of knowledge and expertise to offer businesses.

We have a successful track record of adding value to business through activities such as consultancy and contract research.

Businesses and individuals have partnered with us on research projects addressing many business requirements and our experts have also been commissioned to undertake contract research; understanding the needs of the business and designing the project accordingly.
