A School of Communication and Creativity (SCC) Spotlight Event Hosted by the Thinking Through Infrastructure Network (TTiN) in collaboration with Sound Practice and Research at City St George's (SPARC) and the Modern History Cluster.
Marianna Dudley is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Humanities at the University of Bristol. In this panel event, she will be in conversation with Dom Davies from the Thinking Through Infrastructure Network (TTiN) and Claudia Molitor from Sound Practice and Research at City St George's (SPARC).
Marianna will be discussing her recent book, Electric Wind: : An Energy History of Modern Britain (Manchester UP 2025), asks how energy has shaped a nation and how a nation is reflected in energy. It takes us to Britain's wildest and windiest places to think deeply about the role of nature in politics, science and technology. And it brings together visionaries and hippies, engineers and entrepreneurs, infrastructure and industry in a captivating history.
The event will feature an exhibition of artwork from the BA/Leverhulme-funded "Power Grids: Comics and Community Energy" project, co-created by Davies and Kremena Dimitrova, as well as sounds from "A Thousand Words For Weather," an audio experience by Molitor and Jessica J. Lee.
