Abstract
Dr Elisa Pineda will discuss her work on Mexico’s food environment demonstrating the strong association between the prevalence of unhealthy food outlets, socioeconomic deprivation, and rising rates of obesity and poor dietary patterns.
These findings underscore the need for a multi-faceted, environment-driven approach to support healthier consumer choices. She will describe a collaborative process of co-designing an intervention through stakeholder workshops that engaged food producers, supermarket managers, and staff.
Professor Simone Pettigrew will report results of an extensive body of research on the negative public health outcomes that are anticipated as a result of the emergence of autonomous (driverless) forms of food delivery.
Examples include deliveries via drones, street bots, road vans, and traversing vending machines. She will outline evidence-informed policy recommendations to prevent a dystopian future of even more affordable and accessible unhealthy foods and beverages.
