Develop an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles associated with economics and accounting. Build on your current mathematics knowledge, either post-GCSE or post-A level.

Introduction to Financial Accounting (15 Credits)

The aim of this module is to introduce you to the principles that underlie financial accounting, as well as to their application, and to the interpretation and use of financial accounting information as part of the effective operation of a business.
Introduction to Management Accounting (15 Credits)

The aim of this module is to introduce you to the principles that underlie management accounting, as well as to their application, and to the use of management accounting information in the effective management of a business.
Introduction to Microeconomics (15 Credits)

This module provides a basic introduction to microeconomic principles, theories and methods of analysis, and a framework for applying these to real-world economic problems.
Introduction to Macroeconomics (15 Credits)

This module provides a basic introduction to macroeconomic principles, theories and methods of analysis, and a framework for applying these to real-world economic problems.
Data Analysis 1 (15 Credits)

In Data Analysis 1, you will understand how an economist thinks and works. You will be introduced to the collection, manipulation, representation, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and presentation of statistical data.
Data Analysis 2 (15 Credits)

Building on the knowledge and skills acquired in Data Analysis 1, the purpose of this module is to expand and deepen your understanding of statistical data analysis and inferential statistics.
Finding your Future in Economics (15 credits)

This module helps understand your career options and gain practical skills such as CV and application writing and securing work experience. You will also develop an understanding of the academic literatures that inform career management thinking, including an overview of ‘legal’ frameworks and ‘social justice topics’ which are a critical discussion of how societal inequities may be experienced in the world of work, and how to navigate these.
Mathematical Methods for Economic Analysis (15 credits)

This module introduces you to the key mathematical techniques used for economic analysis and how they apply, in particular, to the formalisation of microeconomics and macroeconomics ideas and models that you will explore in your study of economics.

Intermediate Financial Accounting (15 Credits)

Building on first year studies, the course aims to develop a wider breadth of accounting knowledge and the ability to understand accounting information in the context of recognised accounting standards and prevailing legal requirements.
Intermediate Management Accounting (15 credits)

This module expands your knowledge in the area of management accounting. The module is relevant either if you are planning to specialise in accounting or finance or if you are interested in the subject for managerial decision-making purposes.
Intermediate Microeconomics 1 (15 Credits)

This module is devoted to the theory of the behaviour of individual agents in the economy. In particular, we will study the behaviour of consumers and firms, and how they interact in competitive markets.
Intermediate Microeconomics 2 (15 Credits)

This module is an extension of Intermediate Microeconomics, Part 1. Topics will include the analysis of the different market structures, monopoly and monopsony and oligopoly. To understand the latter, a brief introduction to game theory will be offered.
Intermediate Macroeconomics 1 (15 Credits)

This module builds upon Introduction to Macroeconomics (EC1009) by covering each of the main theoretical models of macroeconomics in the context of both closed and open economies.
Introductory Econometrics (15 Credits)

The purpose of this module is to equip you with the basic econometric knowledge and skills expected of an Economics graduate at this level, and to lay foundations for your further study.
Principles of Law (15 credits)

This module introduces you to the foundational concepts, principles, and institutions of law. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the legal system and the role of law in society, preparing you for further study in legal and related disciplines.
Intermediate Macroeconomics 2 (15 Credits)

This module builds upon Intermediate Macroeconomics 1 (EC2015) by applying the main theoretical models of macroeconomics to important applied areas such as the macroeconomics of economic growth and the microfoundations of macroeconomics.
International Trade (15 Credits)

This module is designed to expose you to the major theories of international trade in order that you gain a balanced perspective both on the advantages and disadvantages of free trade.
Global Financial Markets (15 Credits)

This module develops a theoretical understanding of the nature and functions of financial markets, financial intermediaries and financial instruments in an international context.
Intermediate Econometrics (15 Credits)

The module builds on the classical linear regression model to study estimation and inference problems arising in empirical economics. The theory is presented at an intermediate technical level, and you are trained on how to use and understand modern computer software.
History of Economic Thought (15 Credits)

The module will provide an introduction to the History of Economic Thought and will consider economic thought from a variety of perspectives.
Money and Banking (15 credits)

This module will develop a theoretical understanding of the nature and functions of the banking system, its relationship with central banks and regulators, and the historical development and role of central banks.
Nations and Firms in the Global Economy (15 credits)

This module studies the main characteristics of the Economic integration process in the light of the Microeconomic and Macroeconomic tools of economic theory.
Digital Economy and Internet Markets (15 credits)

In this module aims you will gain a sound knowledge of economic theories and (theoretical and empirical) methods to analyse digital markets and prepare them to use this knowledge within an applied framework. At the end of the module, you should have an understanding of various factors that determine the behaviour of individual consumers and firms/sellers in online markets.
International Trade (15 credits)

This module provides a balanced perspective on the possibilities that free trade opens, and the practical and political difficulties that countries, and the individuals and firms within them, face in realising them.
Digital Economy and Internet Markets (15 credits)

In this module, you will go over the literature of different aspects of digital economy, including theoretical models, empirical estimations, and related applications. Yyou will gain a sound knowledge of economic theories and methods to analyse digital markets and prepare to use this knowledge.
Money and Banking (15 credits)

On this module you will develop a theoretical understanding of the banking system and its relationship with central banks and regulators. You will also cover the historical development and role of central banks from the early 20th century up to and including the recent financial and banking crisis.
Accenture School of Tech: Building Skills in Tech transformation, Cloud and Consultancy (15 credits)

This module will be focused on equipping you with the skills required to leverage cloud technologies in a business context, with the overarching objective of developing a deeper understanding of the skills required to transition from university to work.

The module aims to give you the ability to select and apply appropriate management accounting techniques for decision making, planning, control and performance evaluation purposes.
Financial Management (15 credits)

Starting from the basic of corporate cash flow and valuation, this module introduces you complex valuation cases, risk and return, and cost of capital. The focus is on understanding and solving practical issues in financial management using exercises and case study.
Advanced Financial Accounting: Theory and Practice (15 Credits)

This module aims to explore key theoretical financial reporting concepts, to examine the application of financial reporting issues in more depth and to inform about recent developments and major debates in financial accounting.
Financial Analysis (15 Credits)

The aim of this module is to equip you with the basic knowledge necessary for a financial statement analysis and security valuation.
Corporate Finance (15 Credits)

In this module, you will learn the key concepts that underpin modern corporate finance and their relevance to business capital structure and corporate governance.

This module provides a general introduction to company law & business organisations.
Introduction to Financial Derivatives (15 credits)

This module presents an overview of the main characteristics of financial instruments and trading practice, with an emphasis on quantitative aspects of options, futures, and other derivatives. These are very important skills in demand in the financial sector.
Monetary Economics (15 credits)

This module aims to provide a stylised history of the field, an evaluation of the major debates concerning the macroeconomic role of money and an explanation of how these debates have influenced the design and conduct of contemporary monetary policy.
Applied Econometrics (15 Credits)

Building on the material covered in Introductory Econometrics, the module covers a variety of econometric theories and techniques in practice.
Labour Economics (15 credits)

This module examines how the labour market operates, with a detailed analysis of theoretical and empirical aspects of labour supply and demand. The module also looks at principal-agent models, human capital, discrimination and incentive pay. Macroeconomic aspects of the labour market are also examined with particular emphasis on the causes and consequences of unemployment.
Industrial Organisation (15 Credits)

This module is designed to meet the demand by firms and economic consultancies at home and abroad for professionals having an integral knowledge of all aspects of structural and strategic firm decision making.
International Finance (15 Credits)

This module gives you an introduction to the body of literature in international finance. On successful completion of this module, you will be able to display knowledge and understanding of the international linkages between national economies in the goods and financial markets.
Development Economics (15 credits)

The purpose of this module is to introduce you to some of the topics of new development economics, which is based on the union of a progressive social awareness with rigorous economic analysis.
Advanced Topics in Microeconomics (15 credits)

This module covers advanced topics in Microeconomic Theory. In the module you will learn fundamental concepts and issues in general equilibrium theory. , you will learn advanced game theory topics, and their theoretical applications to broad areas of interest in economic policy, like auctions, principal-agent models, and mechanism design.
Computational Economics (15 credits)

The first part of the course will cover some basic concepts in coding and some popular Python packages. The second part will teach you on how to use computing techniques to solve specific economic problems.
Topics in Health Economics (15 credits)

This module introduces students to the key principles in the theory of health economics. You will cover a range of topics within health, health care and public health focusing both on theoretical and empirical aspects of economic analysis, policy and decision making.
Economics and Society (15 credits)

This module studies social and public challenges and how economics can inform solutions to those challenges. You will be able to identify under which circumstances collective action is required or preferred over market solutions, i.e., state intervention in poverty alleviation, environmental protection, retirement pensions, health care, and education.

Experimental Economics (15 credits)

A module in microeconomics, builds upon Intermediate Microeconomics 1 (EC2014) by applying and testing microeconomic theory in the lab and field.
Micro-Placement (15 credits)

The module seeks to enhance career exploration and will provide you with professional level experience in the form of a self-contained project with one of City’s external employer partners. Industry Projects (15 credits)

Using knowledge and skills gained through your degree, you will work in small multi-disciplinary groups on real-life professional level practical projects for employers, choosing between 5 sector streams, such as policy, finance, community, business and arts and culture.
Summer Internship (15 credits)

The module seeks to enhance career exploration and the development of relevant professional experience through a summer internship. Your summer internship will take place during the summer either between levels 4 and 5 or between levels 5 and 6.
Year Placement: Integrated Professional Training (15 credits)

This module aims to consolidate the learning and development you have gained through professional level experience in the form of a substantial work placement.

Placements

You will have the option to complete a one-year work placement between years two and three of your degree, putting your skills into practice in a real-world setting. If you choose this option you will graduate with a BSc in Economics with Accounting with Integrated Professional Training.

Teaching and assessment

The degree covers a wide-range of economics topics, along with financial accounting, financial management and management accounting, producing graduates that are highly sought after in the accountancy and banking industries.

Modules in economics are led by expert staff within the Department of Economics, while accountancy modules are taught by staff from Bayes Business School. All staff on this course are experts in their fields and will support your learning in a dynamic, energised and stimulating environment.
