Financial Technology and Systems MSc Course overview

Benefits of this course

This programme is delivered in partnership with academics from Bayes Business School and gives a first-hand experience on using the Bloomberg Trading Terminals whereby student teams compete with an allocated capital to invest in crypto stocks.

In addition the programme allows you to work closely with some of the fintech organisations such as the Lloyds Banking Group, Allica Bank, Thirdfort, EarthID, MoneyHop and many others to co-create an innovative fintech product that will be disruptive in the marketplace.

There is an optional experience to work with one of the fintech players in the UK or elsewhere. Interested students will share their CV with the Corporate Relations and Employability Unit (CREU) who will liaise with the prospective fintech partner to identify the suitable candidate based on the skills / talent requirements of the organisation.

This course will prepare you with knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

  • Will provide you with a good understanding of the basic design principles of the fintech systems
  • Help you to design systems that are ethical and comply with regulatory requirements
  • Will aid you with the skills needed to develop a product from the ideation stage to prototype
  • Will give you exposure to real-world practical problems in the fintech industry
  • Will give you sound knowledge in the cyber security and risk assessment principles that are needed for the fintech industry
  • Will provide you with the knowledge and understanding and banking and finance relevant to open banking.

Student testimonials

  • Coming from a finance background, I initially lacked the technical skills needed in FinTech. However, throughout the course, I gained hands-on experience with industry-leading tools, such as business intelligence software, data analysis tools, and even had the opportunity to use Bloomberg trading terminals. I also developed programming skills in Python - invaluable for my technical growth.

  • On a practical level, I acquired skills that I now use on a regular basis, such as structuring research projects and coding (as a beginner). But unexpectedly, this programme prepared me for one important life skill in the sector, how to launch a start-up in an unfamiliar environment, very different from my previous experiences.
