City St George’s Honorary Professor Geeta Nargund appointed to the House of Lords

Professor Geeta Nargund, Honorary Professor of Women’s Health at City St George’s, University of London, has been elevated to the House of Lords.

Appointed by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in December 2025, she will sit as Professor Baroness Nargund of Wimbledon in the London Borough of Merton and Tooting in the London Borough of Wandsworth.

Professor Baroness Nargund is a globally respected medical doctor, entrepreneur and advocate for women’s health, leadership, and education. At City St George’s, she contributes extensive expertise in women’s health, medical innovation and health equality, supporting the University’s work across research, education, policy and practice.

Throughout her career, Professor Baroness Nargund has been dedicated to addressing health inequalities and improving access to reproductive healthcare and choice in the UK and globally. She is the Founder of CREATE Fertility, ABC IVF, and the charity Health Equality Foundation, organisations that have helped reshape access to fertility treatment and champion fairer healthcare systems.

Alongside her role at City St George’s, Professor Baroness Nargund holds several senior leadership and advisory positions. She is Pro-Chancellor (Health Equality) at the University of Portsmouth, an Authority Member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), and President of the International Society for Mild Approaches in Assisted Reproduction (ISMAAR). She has worked as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Lead Consultant in Reproductive Medicine at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust since 1996. Baroness Nargund also served as Vice Chair of the British Red Cross from 2021 to 2026.

Speaking about her appointment, Professor Baroness Nargund said:

Life peers are appointed by the King on the advice of the Prime Minister. The House of Lords Appointments Commission, an independent body established in 2000, plays a key role in the process by recommending individuals for appointment, including non-party-political life peers. Nominations may also be made by political parties, with appointments formally confirmed following approval by the Prime Minister.
