The School of Health & Medical Sciences has been awarded a prestigious Silver Athena Swan Award in recognition of its strong and ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education and research.

The award marks a milestone following the merger of legacy St George’s School of Health & Medical Sciences and legacy City’s School of Health & Psychological Sciences. As a newly integrated school, the City St George’s School of Health & Medical Sciences successfully applied for a joint Silver award - bringing together and building upon the Athena Swan recognitions previously held by the two legacy schools.

This is the first Silver Athena Swan Award to be granted at City St George’s, highlighting the School’s leadership in driving meaningful progress on gender equality and fostering a more inclusive academic and research environment.

The Athena Swan Charter is an internationally recognised framework used to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research institutions. The Silver Award reflects the School’s demonstrable progress in this area and its commitment to addressing intersectionality.
