Students received their awards at a ceremony hosted by Dr Kevin Ryan and Professor Golnaz Badkobeh, Head of the Department of Computer Science.
On Thursday 3 April, the Department of Computer Science, School of Science & Technology at City St George’s, University of London hosted a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of eight of its postgraduate student who maintained an excellent standard during their master’s study during the academic year 2023/24.
The awards were presented by Dr Kevin Ryan, Lecturer in Data Science and Deep Learning at the School and its Head of Department, Professor Golnaz Badkobeh.

The experience on the MSc in Data Science course was pretty intense and varied. It gave me a lot of exposure to many different concepts and the teaching staff were inviting and always ready to answer any question no matter how small. I especially enjoyed the data bites sessions that were held throughout the year as they gave me a chance to increase my network and knowledge around how data is applied in different industries.

I joined the HCID course at City St George’s University after thorough research and much contemplation between pursuing a master’s degree or a bootcamp. Ultimately, City St George’s balance between design and academic research convinced me, along with the opportunity to explore elective modules such as Data Visualization and AR/VR Technologies.
Looking back, I’m glad I made this decision! After spending nearly 20 years in advertising and later pivoting to the food industry post-COVID, I aspired to deepen my knowledge and skill set in User Experience (UX) Design, a field that allowed me to bring together my diverse professional backgrounds.
Overall, this course has given me renewed confidence which I sought, and I now aspire to work at the intersection of food and UX design, exploring experiential dining experiences and shaping how technology influences our relationship with food. Additionally, my individual project has sparked a deep interest in AI ethics, and I am keen on contributing to the development of policies and regulations that ensure responsible and human-centered AI design.

From my experience, I can say with confidence that the master’s programme in artificial intelligence at City St George’s is a great course for anyone with an interest, but not necessarily experience, in artificial intelligence. You will acquire important programming skills that are vital in careers related to artificial intelligence, alongside knowledge of the latest advances in artificial intelligence today.
Immediately after completing my master’s degree, I moved to The University of Manchester to pursue a PhD building on the research I did on the topic of my master’s thesis, combining the knowledge gained from both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
