Research in Times of Crisis and Conflict: Navigating Uncertainty

The Doctoral College at City St George’s, University of London is hosting its inaugural conference for doctoral researchers and early career researchers. The event is free and open to everyone including students, staff, alumni and external attendees. Please register as spaces are limited.

The theme for this year will be “Research in Times of Crisis and Conflict Navigating Uncertainty”. Researchers will present papers that critically explore the challenges of research in times of crisis, conflict, and uncertainty from any disciplinary or multidisciplinary perspective.

Conference keynote

Professor Cynthia Enloe

Professor Cynthia Enloe serves as a Research Professor at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. She is a prominent feminist analyst of international politics and a widely recognised leading voice on gender and militarism.

Among her fifteen published books is 'Twelve Feminist Lessons of War.' In addition to her extensive publication record and numerous awards, Enloe is a dedicated lecturer and activist committed to highlighting the influence of feminist and gendered perspectives on both national and international political discourse.

She has been recognised by the International Criminal Court at The Hague, where her name is inscribed on the Gender Justice Plaque.

Professor Diana Beech – Director of the Finsbury Institute

Professor Diana Beech is Director of the Finsbury Institute, leading the establishment of a new public policy hub for the City of London at City St George’s.

Diana has made a career working at the interface of academia and policy, most notably serving as Policy Advisor to three Universities and Science Ministers under the last UK Government and as CEO of London Higher, representing London’s university sector.

Dr Louisa Munch

Dr Louisa Munch is a critical theorist whose work explores nostalgia, neoliberalism and contemporary political culture.

She completed her PhD at University of Warwick, where she teaches in English and Comparative Literary Studies, and also creates widely followed public-facing critical theory content on social media.

Louisa is currently working on her first book, Glitch, forthcoming with Allen Lane.
