This year marks 40 years of the MSc Actuarial Science at Bayes Business School. Since 1985, the programme has supported generations of students who have gone on to make an impact across the global actuarial profession. This milestone reflects not only learning and discovery, but also the dedication of our staff, alumni and industry partners who have shaped the journey along the way. In this event will aim to honour this, our community, and the future of actuarial science.
It will feature a keynote talk by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ President and City graduate, Paul Sweeting, and a panel discussion on the history and future of actuarial science.

Keynote Lecture - History and Future of Actuarial Science
In his talk, Paul will look at the beginnings of the actuarial profession, how it has developed and evolved over time, and what is in store for the future.
Paul Sweeting is the President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He is also a director of Tawuniya Insurance, the Middle East’s
largest insurance company. Until recently, he was a senior advisor at the Hassana Investment Company, having previously been its Chief Risk Officer. Before this, Paul had a wide-ranging career in pensions, life insurance, investment, and academia.
Paul is an Honorary Professor of Actuarial Science at the University of Kent and a Visiting Professor at Heriot-Watt University Dubai. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, for whom he has acted as a volunteer for many years. He also helped design and write the textbook for the Profession’s Enterprise Risk Management subject.
Paul has chaired a number of actuarial boards, committees and working parties, and served as Honorary Secretary for the Institute of Actuaries prior to its merger with the Faculty of Actuaries. Paul is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, the Royal Statistical Society, and the Royal Society of Arts. In addition, he is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and a CFA Charterholder. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bristol.
Panel Discussion - Shaping Tomorrow’s Actuary
Professor Ioannis Kyriakou, Director of the Actuarial Master’s Cluster, will chair a panel discussion will chair a forward-looking panel discussion on how the field is changing, the shifting demands on actuarial expertise, and the rise of new actuarial pathways that connect the profession with emerging domains in data-driven decision-making analytics, and technological innovation.
Andreas Chatzineofytou
Andreas is a qualified Capital Actuary with eight years of experience in the London insurance market, possessing a strong range of expertise across the public and private sectors. Prior to his current role at Beazley (a specialist global insurer and FTSE 100 company), Andreas worked for the UK Government Actuary’s Department (GAD). A proud alumnus, he studied Actuarial Science and Mathematics at City University and is of Greek Cypriot heritage.
Simran Dewani
Simran Dewani is a Senior Actuarial Analyst at Aspen Insurance UK. She joined Aspen in the graduate programme in 2021, after graduating from Bayes with an MSc in Actuarial Science, joining the Reinsurance Reserving team. She currently is a member of the Insurance Pricing team, focusing on Natural Resources and Crisis Management risks.

Meghna Sharma
Meghna Sharma is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of
Actuaries in the UK with over 12 years of experience across various life insurance markets and regulatory regimes. She specialises in IFRS17 & SII Statutory reporting, Capital Modelling, and Longevity risk solutions. Currently, Meghna leads the IFRS17 valuation team for the bulk and individual annuities at Canada Life UK. She also serves as the IFoA’s Women Actuaries Committee member, promoting the development and empowerment of women in the profession globally.
