Celebrating the merger with St George's, this February's Bayes Alumni Connect will provide a unique opportunity for Bayes alumni to connect with alumni from our medical school and hear from academics from both disciplines discuss the connection between business and leadership and the medical world.
Professor Amit Nigam, Professor of Management Bayes Business School, will give a talk on "An attention-based view of leadership" exploring the competing demands on attention as a key leadership challenge, and speak to work on how health professionals navigate these attentional challenges.
Dr Aurora Campagna and Dr Ferran Valderrama will speak on“STAGE: Spheroid-based Treatment Guide, A cell journey towards diagnosis” exploring their development of an innovative patient-derived organoid (PDO) diagnostic platform for prostate cancer, a platform that represents a transformative tool in the clinic and in the precision medicine industry.

About the speakers
Professor Amit Nigam is a Professor in Management at the Bayes Business School. His research examines the political, sensemaking, and framing processes of organisational and institutional change - with a specific emphasis on professions and occupations in change processes. His work on institutional change looks at the sensemaking, communicative, and career-related processes by which new institutional logics and professions emerge.
His work on organisational change focuses on processes of organisational search and learning, on change in organisational routines, and on how peoples’ social positions shape their engagement with the change process. Empirically, he primarily looks at change processes in hospitals and healthcare systems.
Dr Aurora Campagna is a Medical Biotechnologist and Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in 3D cell culture systems and advanced microscopy techniques.
In the last 5 years, she has developed 3D co-culture systems to study how the immune system influences the progression of prostate cancer. More recently, she has integrated this system in human tissue to model disease and develop translational diagnostic tools.
Dr Ferran Valderrama is a Cell Biologist and Associate Professor in Cancer Cell Biology. Using high-end microscopy approaches, his research aims to understand how changes in cell morphology and motility can be used as readouts of cancer progression.
In the last 10 years, he has developed a range of 3D cell culture models recapitulating the early events observed in the glandular structures of the prostate and has used them as translational diagnostic tools for prostate cancer.
