About
Overview
Khang (Maika) Pham studies how states turn climate change into a security problem, and what happens when they do. Her research interests are climate security, securitization theory and Vietnamese geopolitics, which she is pursuing as a PhD researcher in International Politics at City St George’s, University of London.
Her writing has appeared in The Diplomat and The Arctic Institute, alongside peer-reviewed work on Mekong River governance. Recent projects have taken her to energy geopolitics and AI governance, and earlier ones to the engagement of Asian states in the Arctic. She mainly works in Vietnamese and English.
She holds an MA in International Relations from Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies (GSAPS), completed on a MEXT scholarship, and a BA in International Relations from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Before returning to academic research, she worked at Ipsos Vietnam as a research assistant.
Outside all this, she likes museums and ballet. Call her a cliché, but she will defend Swan Lake. One day there will be a cat.
