Can you please tell us who you are, where you are from, and what you play?

I'm Alex George, I'm from Carmarthen, Wales and I'm a singer.

Why did you choose to study a BMus?

I chose Music as I love to perform and I wanted to expand on that whilst also pursuing my interests in popular music and music therapy (a few of the fantastic modules that City has to offer).

Why did you choose to study at City?

The facilities, reputation and their affiliation with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama are all fantastic. But the location, in the heart of one of the greatest cities in the world, was definitely also one of my top reasons.

What's your favourite topic within the programme, and why?

As City's programme offers such a variety of modules it is impossible to choose a favourite. During my time on the BMus course I tried to strike a balance by taking modern music studies ('Popular music studies'; 'Music and the moving image'), more traditional choices ('Historical performance practice'; 'Orchestral and instrumental studies') as well as some of the more unique options that City offers such as Music therapy.

What are the three best things about the programme?

1. Our amazing faculty staff: all encouraging, supportive, passionate and engaging.
2. The facilities with which to carry out our studies.
3. The variety that the programme has to offer, from modules, to ensembles as well as encouraging students to be independent and create their own options.

What's the best thing about studying in central London?

I couldn't possibly choose one thing! The excitement of living in such a beautiful and great city is priceless. Being able to travel around very easily (quite a novelty for a girl from a small village in South Wales); the many different forms of entertainment; the opportunities for performers are endless.

What has been your greatest achievement during your time at City?

I recently applied to the London School of Musical Theatre for their one-year course for after I graduated at City. I was lucky enough to gain a place but then was truly blessed not only to be nominated for a prestigious scholarship but to win it!

If you could give one piece of advice to a prospective City BMus student, what would it be?

The time goes a lot faster than you think it will, so work hard and play hard.

What are your plans after completing your degree?

I will be attending the London School of Musical Theatre from September 2012 to July 2013 and after that I will be auditioning like mad to get myself onto that West End stage!
