About
Overview
Dr Ilias Kapsis joined City Law School as Senior Lecturer in August 2023. His main research interests include issues of regulation and competition law in financial services and technology markets with emphasis on the regulation of fintech, cryptocurrencies, CBDCs and artificial intelligence. Ilias has presented in conferences and published in these areas.
Ilias's research explores theories and models of regulation, which safeguard market stability and consumer protection without stifling innovation or endangering the level-playing field in markets with significant technological innovation.
His teaching interests include banking law, technology law, competition law, investment law, commercial law, land law and equity & trusts.
Before joining City Ilias was employed (2008-2023) initially as a Lecturer and then as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at the Law School of the University of Bradford, where he served in various School, Faculty and University roles.
In Bradford, as Director of Studies of the Postgraduate Law Programmes and Programme Lead, led in the design of the Distance Learning postgraduate law programme and of three LLMs in Technology & Artificial Intelligence Law; International Banking & Financial Technology Law; International Corporate Law & Governance.
Ilias also developed and taught a number of modules in the fields of banking law and technology law.
In Bradford Ilias managed the international academic partnerships of the Faculty of Management & Law in Hong Kong, India and Singapore and contributed and to the Law School, Faculty and University strategies on internationalisation.
