Our principal investigators are internationally respected and recognised in the fields of cardiovascular and lymphovascular genomics, sports cardiology, cardiac pathology, vascular biology and surgery, cellular and small animal modelling focusing on the development of novel therapeutics, and diagnostics and risk stratification, in particular for sudden cardiac death.
We have strong links with the clinical services in St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where much of our translational research occurs, supporting a broad portfolio of clinical trials and studies.
Research Sections
Clinical Cardiology
We focus on a range of key areas, including arrhythmias, heart failure, coronary and valvular heart disease, inherited cardiac conditions and sports cardiology. We strive to bring the latest scientific advancements into everyday clinical practice through clinical trials, translational research, and collaboration with global partners.
Experimental Cardiology
The Experimental Cardiology Section focuses on establishing the pathological diagnoses in cases of sudden cardiac death (SCD) and understanding the molecular causes of pathogenesis of SCD entities. Specifically, researchers work towards establishing methods of risk stratification, applying improved diagnostic approaches and developing mechanism-based therapies. Furthermore, the section includes research surrounding the genetic aetiology of familial hypercholesterolaemia.
Genomics Research
The aim of the Genomics Research Section is to understand the molecular genetics and developmental aetiology of a range of single gene disorders, syndromes and complex traits. Current areas of research lie within the analysis and interpretation of DNA variants in human disease, focusing on translational bench-to-bedside approaches. As such, principal investigators within the section work closely with associate members from across the University and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Vascular Biology
The Vascular Biology research section is a multidisciplinary research group that brings together experts in blood vessel pharmacology, platelet biology, and cellular mechanisms that underpin heart and vessel diseases.
