This grant is provided by City St George's, University of London to support undergraduate students from the lowest household incomes.
Undergraduates can use this grant to help cover their living expenses and/or course materials.
Eligibility criteria
- Ordinarily resident in England;
- New full-time entrants to City St George’s starting their first year in 2025/26 of an undergraduate degree course BA, BSc and BEng;
- Not already been awarded a degree;
- Household income of between £0 and £10,000 as assessed by Student Finance England (SFE) by 31 March 2026.
Value
Students from zero household income - £1,000 grant per academic year for a maximum of three academic years subject to continually meeting all the eligibility criteria.
Students from household income between £0.01 to £10,000 - £500 grant per academic year for a maximum of three academic years subject to continually meeting all the eligibility criteria. A maximum of 1,000 eligible students will receive the City Education Grant in this category.
How to apply
In order to apply for the City Education Grant you will need to follow these three steps:
- Apply for Student Finance through Student Finance England (SFE);
- Provide your household income to Student Finance England;
- Both you and your sponsors/parents/partner/guardians must give consent to share your household income with City St George's, University of London. Your consent must be activated on your Student Finance England account before/on 31 March 2026. For any queries on giving your consent please contact Student Finance England directly on 0300 100 0607.
You must provide your household income to Student Finance England and your consent to share your household income with City St George's, University of London by 31 March 2026, otherwise you will not be considered for a grant for the full duration of your undergraduate course at City St George's.
Notification and payment
Eligible students will be contacted during January 2026 by their City St George's email address. Payments will be made in two equal instalments in January and April each year. Students must remain enrolled throughout the academic year to retain the City Education Grant.
Notice for 2026/2027 applicants
The arrangements and potential funding amounts outlined here relate to academic year 2025/26 only. For the 2026/27 cohort of undergraduates and onwards, the grant offer at City, St George's will be integrated across all campuses, this will include changes to the eligibility criteria and bursary value.
