Palliative Care Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide a brief overview of the principles and philosophy that underpin palliative and end-of-life care, highlighting how this can be applied to support people across a range of care settings.
This course focuses on delivering care within a human-rights-based approach, with compassion, dignity and respect for the individual. Highlighting the reality and challenges of everyday clinical practice, this course facilitate debates and conversation by delegates to reflect on their own practice.
The course will explore the complexity of supporting the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of both individuals and families.

Timetable
This palliative care training course runs over one day. Please note that the February 17th 2022 session is being delivered online.

Assessment and certificates
The course is delivered in a classroom setting using a range of teaching styles in order to support learning. Teaching includes the use of PowerPoint presentation, videos, discussion and debates. Participants will take part in group activities that will support their exploration of current practice and align with the current evidence base and national policy.
This course is provided by the School of Health & Psychological Sciences.
Eligibility
This course is designed for registered nurses. However, with prior notification, the course can successfully be adapted to meet a range of needs, including:
- health care support workers
- social care workers
- other groups of employees who may be delivering palliative and end-of-life care.
English requirements
You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
