Introduction to Minor Injury and Ailment Management for Practice Nurses

This one-day course will ensure that you are up to date in understanding the assessment and management of patients who present in primary care with minor injuries and ailments.

The course will enhance the care you are able to deliver by ensuring that your skills and knowledge are developed or maintained, and the content covered includes musculoskeletal injuries, eye and ENT problems and wounds.

The course also enables further clinical skills progression and allows you to move on to other programmes of education if desired.

Who is it for?

This course if for registered nurses working in primary care settings, such as Practice Nurses, or those working in walk-in centres.

This course runs over one full day.

• Minor head injuries, concussion and facial injuries
• Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Principles of assessment
  • Fractures and soft tissue injuries
  • Common upper and lower limb injuries
• pain assessment and management
• the assessment and management of acute wounds, including surgical wounds, traumatic wounds and burns
• the assessment and management of chronic wounds, including leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and fungating wounds.

This one-day course consists of lectures, group discussion and a practical workshop if requested.

There is no formal assessment for the delegates on this day, but the day will be evaluated and your comments will be received with thanks.

This course is worth 8 hours of CPD and you will receive a certificate of attendance.

This course is provided by the School of Health & Psychological Sciences.

Applicants must be registered practitioners working in a primary care setting.

English requirements

You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.

Anatomy and physiology pre-reading would be helpful.
