Introduction to Rhythm Recognition / ECG Interpretation

This course provides participants with the opportunity to review the following topics:

• Revision of cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology
• Six stage approach to systematic rhythm interpretation
• Recognition of normal sinus rhythm and common arrhythmias
• Appreciation of the clinical context of some common arrhythmias
• Obtaining a readable ECG recording
• Systematic approach to 12-lead ECG interpretation - Including recoginition of the normal 12-lead ECG).
• The role of the 12-lead ECG in identifying acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and determining immediate management

Who is it for?

This one-day course is aimed at registered practitioners who have some basic understanding of rhythm recognition. The applicant will build on this knowledge to develop and understanding of how arrythmias can present of a 12-lead ECG.

Participants will receive a workbook which will be used throughout the day. The workbook contains several group work exercises involving patient scenarios.

There is no formal assessment for this course.

The study day will award the applicant with 7.5 CPD hours and a certificate of attendance.

This course is provided by the School of Health & Psychological Sciences.

Applicants must be registered practitioners working in a clinical setting where continuous cardiac monitoring is performed and 12-lead ECG interpretation skills are required.

The applicant does not need to complete any pre-course learning. However, it would benefit the applicant to have a basic understanding of rhythm recognition through a rhythm strip.

English requirements

You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
