Entry requirements

Below is a list of countries with information on each about which qualifications we accept. If your country is not listed please email international@city.ac.uk.

  • UK

    A-level:
    CD
    Tariff:
    56 UCAS tariff points
    International Baccalaureate:
24 points and a minimum of 5 in SL Maths and English
    BTEC:
MPP. Health and Social Care or Science-related subject only
    GCSE:
Grade 4 or above (or grade C or above for GCSEs taken before 2017) in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent qualification e.g. Functional/Key skills Level 2 in numeracy and literacy.

These are standard entry requirements for the 2025 application cycle; offers made through Clearing may be lower.

    CTEC

CTEC Extended Diploma: MPP in a Health and Social Care or Science subject only

We also accept other CTEC qualifications in combination with other qualifications such as A Level or BTEC. Your total grades should meet our advertised Tariff offer and will need to meet our subject requirements.

    University preparation programmes

If you do not qualify for direct entry, you may wish to take a foundation programme first. These programmes are designed to prepare students for entry to City George's undergraduate courses.

    Access to Higher Education

We welcome applications from students with an Access to HE Diploma. These applicants will be considered on the basis of their own merits. Please be aware that Access students may be asked for further information to supplement their application, this is normally in the form of a questionnaire.

A typical offer would be: QAA Access to HE Diploma with 60 credits overall, to include 45 credits at Level 3 with 6 credits at Distinctions and 39 credits at Pass. This must be in Nursing, Midwifery, Health Science or Social Care. We also require a minimum of grade C / grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics.

    T Levels

We also accept T Levels for this programme with grade P (D-E). This must be in Health, Science or Healthcare Science.

    Apprenticeship Route

The above entry requirements apply to the direct entry route. Apprenticeship route entry requires:

    • Written recommendation and support from the line manager following an informed discussion.
    • Must be currently employed as a Healthcare Assistant or as a Healthcare Support Worker by a Trust or healthcare organisation.
    • Level 2 numeracy and literacy skills.
    • Care certificate.
    • Occupational Health and DBS clearance confirmed by City, University of London.

    Mixed qualifications

We may use tariff points for conditional offers, especially when applicants present mixed qualifications such as combinations of A-levels, BTECs and CTECs.

Please be aware that we may still ask for a specific score across certain qualifications and subjects e.g. 'This offer is conditional on you achieving 128 tariff points. This must include A-level Biology at grade B.'

    Subject exclusions

We do not accept General Studies and Critical Thinking. These subjects will not be included in any conditional offer we make.

We do not accept Access courses.

    Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

We welcome applications from students who are completing relevant EPQ Projects. Whilst we recognise the value of these projects in preparing students for independent learning at university, the EPQ is unlikely to form part of any conditional offer we make.

We will consider the EPQ as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.

    AS levels

We recognise that there will be differences of opportunity varying by school and college. As not all students will have the opportunity to sit AS Level exams, it is unlikely we will include AS Level grades in any offer we choose to make.

Where students have completed an AS Level subject, we will consider this as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.

  • Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe GCE A Level is considered on a grade for grade basis with GCE A Levels.
