Awardees engaged the ceremony attendees with the panel discussion: ‘The Human-AI Workplace of the Future: The Path to Coexistence’.

On Tuesday 4 November the School of Science & Technology, City St George’s, University of London, conferred awards on three of its most outstanding alumni.
Now in its fourth year, the City St George's STEM Alumni Awards, recognised the achievements of:
- Dr Yanong Ning (PhD Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 1992) who received the ‘Distinguished Academic STEM Alumni Award’ 2025
- Peter Rutherford MBE (MSc Management of Information Security and Risk, 2017) was the runner-up for this year's Excellence in STEM Achievement Award, 2025
- Dr Judit Guimerà Busquets (PhD Air Traffic Forecasting, 2023; BEng Air Transport Engineering, 2013), who received the Excellence in STEM Achievement Award, 2025
During the day, awardees were taken on a tour of the School’s current, cutting-edge lab facilities, and for a celebratory lunch with City St George’s staff, including its President Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, who delivered his speech in honour of this year’s winners.
The award ceremony took place in the evening, with awards presented by Interim Executive Dean, Professor Neil Audsley, followed by the panel discussion chaired by Dr Tillman Weyde, Reader in the Department of Computer Science at the School, with the awardees joined by Dr Sara Jones, Reader in Creative Interactive System Design, Bayes Business School.
Entitled, ‘The Human-AI Workplace of the Future: The Path to Coexistence’ discussion panellists shared their views of how artificial intelligence is transforming from a passive tool into an active collaborator, supported by humans when needed, and may eventually become an autonomous member of a team
They opened the discussion out to a wide range of questions from the audience.
History
The annual STEM Alumni Awards were launched in 2022 to honour alumni of the School of Science & Technology who are working to achieve positive change in their respective communities, and making an outstanding impact.
The two award categories are:
- Distinguished STEM Alumni Award for alumni who have achieved significant success within their respective STEM discipline.
- Excellence in STEM Achievement Alumni Award for alumni who have made significant progress in their careers within ten years of graduating from the School.
