City St George’s School of Communication & Creativity (SCC) hires nine new lecturers across its three departments.

The School of Communication & Creativity (SCC) welcomes new faces for the 2024/25 academic year across all three of its departments.
Department of Journalism
Students in the Department of Journalism benefit from being taught by lecturers with high-level industry experience working in top media outlets across the world.
The department is consistently ranked 1st in the UK for Journalism, hitting the top ranking in the Guardian University Guide 2023.
The new lecturers joining are:
- Kath Melandri, a journalist with 25 years of experience in broadcast at the BBC and over a decade of experience in academia, including at the London College of Fashion where she taught Broadcast on the BA in Fashion Journalism
- Juan Solari, an experienced video journalist, producer and director. He worked for many years as the London Correspondent for Mexican TV Azteca and was the Studio Manager for ESPN Latin America during the 2012 London Olympics
- Raekha Prasad, a social affairs journalist with 25 years of experience. She spent five years as a foreign correspondent in Asia working for The Guardian, The Times, The Independent and the BBC. She is the author of a groundbreaking report into black deaths in police custody for the charity INQUEST and lectured at Goldsmiths for five years
- Suyin Haynes, a freelance journalist, media consultant and writer focusing on storytelling at the intersections of identity, culture and underrepresented communities. She was previously Head of Editorial at gal-dem and was a journalist for TIME for five years in both London and Hong Kong.
Department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries (MCCI)
The Department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries (MCCI) is the fastest-growing Department in SCC. This term, the Department launched a full new suite of master’s degrees in marketing, public relations and communications, reflecting the University’s commitment to being the University of business practice and the professions.
Joining the Department are:
- Bence Bardos, a filmmaker, content creator and academic who researches remix culture, online memes, digital participatory culture, social media communication and more. He has previously taught at the University of University of Kent and Kodolányi János University in Budapest
- Rosa Beunel-Fogarty, a lecturer in English and postcolonial literature. Her research specialism is Indian Ocean Island literature. She is researching the culture of creolised societies, archipelagic theory, and the relationship between local cultural production and global networks
- Ayesha Taylor-Camara, a lecturer in media and marketing analytics. She designs research and delivers insights that help brands, podcasters and marketers better understand how their content, marketing and brand resonate with audiences. Her research has focused on a framework for thinking about how we value the BBC in everyday life.
Department of Performing Arts
The Department of Performing Arts brings together the prestigious musical theatre training provider, Urdang, with our renowned Department of Music which has been a part of City St George’s fabric for more than 45 years.
Joining the Department are:
- Mira Benjamin, a Canadian violinist, researcher and new-music instigator. She performs new and old music with an experimental outlook and is interested in how the human body holds and experiences knowledge. She was a member of the Bozzini Quartet in Montreal and since relocating to the UK performs regularly as a violinist with Apartment House, Plus Minus Ensemble and Decibel Ensemble
- Ruth Herbert, a music psychologist and performer with diverse research interests in the fields of music in everyday life, music, health and wellbeing, music and consciousness (including ASC and Trance), sonic studies and music education. She has performed with various ensembles, recording soundtracks for silent films commissioned by the British Film Institute (BFI) with the piano trio Triptych.
