Join us for a celebration of City St George's writing short course literary talent as City Writes makes a special one-off return to in-person.
Our line-up features:
- Readings from our City Writes competition winners
- A special appearance by Han Smith, City St George's alumna and Goldsmith's Prize short listee
- Exclusive readings from short course tutors Caroline Green, Katy Darby, Martin Ouvry and Jem Bartholomew.
The evening will culminate with host, Novel Studio tutor, Rebekah Lattin-Rawstrone in conversation with Han Smith, followed by an engaging panel discussion and Q&A with our tutors.
Guests are welcome to join us from 18.30 for a drink. Readings will start promptly at 19:00 and finish by 20.45.

About the speakers
- Caroline Green is tutor on Crime Thriller Writing. She is an award-winning, best-selling author of crime and young adult fiction. Caroline works extensively in schools teaching creative writing and is currently Writer in Residence at East Barnet School.
- Katy Darby is tutor on Short Story Writing. Her short stories have been read on BBC Radio 4 and 4Extra, published in magazines including Slice, Mslexia and The London Magazine, and won prizes in several international fiction competitions. Her historical novel The Unpierced Heart is published by Penguin.
- Martin Ouvry is tutor on Novel Writing and Longer Works. Martin's writing has won a number of awards including a final year prize for outstanding achievement (UEA BA), the Alumni Association Prize for Fiction (UEA MA), a Hawthornden Fellowship, a Wingate Scholarship in literature and two Arts Council grants.
- Jem Bartholomew is tutor on Fact-based Storytelling. He is an award-winning freelance reporter, with a focus on writing narrative nonfiction about poverty, social exclusion and other topics. He recently wrote two chapters for the book of reportage, Broke: Fixing Britain’s Poverty Crisis (Biteback, 2023). Jem writes for publications including The Guardian, Economist, Wall Street Journal and Columbia Journalism Review.
- Rebekah Lattin-Rawstrone is tutor on The Novel Studio. Rebekah is a prize-winning writer, editor and creative writing teacher. Her novel Home, about a corrupt care home, is published by Red Button Publishing and Glitches, her short story chapbook, is published by Acorn Books.
