The Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research at the School of Health and Medical Sciences, City St George's, University of London welcome Jalana Lazar to discuss midwives’ experiences of group antenatal care in diverse contexts, as part of the SHMS research seminar series.
Abstract
The World Health Organization’s global position paper on transitioning to midwifery models of care offers a highlights the vital role of midwives within health systems and exhorts a global transition to midwifery led models of care. How are midwives experiencing these models currently and how do midwives engage in advocacy for this transition moving forward?
Dr Jalana Lazar of Frontier Nursing University will present her research on midwives’ experiences of group antenatal care in diverse contexts, which explores fundamental elements of midwifery work and role satisfaction and considers pathways for engaging midwives in self-advocacy as a framework for higher quality care for both the midwifery workforce and maternal child health.
About the Speaker
Jalana Lazar, PhD, MPH, WHNP-BC, CNM, FACNM, is a midwife, researcher and educator. She is clinical faculty at Frontier Nursing University and as consultant for Group Care Global leads the Global Group Care Community of Practice, conducts trainings, and develops materials and resources in both virtual and in-person formats, with a focus on embedding sustainable group care in diverse contexts.
Jalana is passionate about group care models, migrant and refugee health, and strengthening global midwifery advocacy and research networks.
