UK Journalists in the 2020s: Launch Event at City St George's, University of London
New study examines who contemporary UK journalists are, how they work and what they think
Please plan to join us on 28th April for the launch of a significant new report based on a large, representative survey of UK journalists, titled UK Journalists in the 2020s, published by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.
At the event, journalists and academics will discuss a range of issues highlighted in this major report, which documents increasing precarities in the profession. These include a shift away from permanent contracts and growth in the number of freelancers; lingering inequalities in pay and seniority; ongoing technological changes that bring benefits but also exacerbate risks; and shifting conceptions of roles, ethics, and risks and threats to journalists in the UK.
Panelists include:
Robyn Vinter - North of England correspondent at the Guardian
Mitali Mukherjee - Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism
Kira Richards - travel and food journalist, including for the Financial Times and National Geographic Traveller.
If the future of journalism matters to you, please plan to join us to learn about these challenges and to consider how best to respond to them.
Authors of UK Journalists in the 2020s include Prof Neil Thurman and Sina Thäsler-Kordonouri of LMU Munich; Dr Richard Fletcher and Dr Craig Robertson of the Reuters Institute; Dr Imke Henkel of the University of Leeds; Dr François Nel of the University of Central Lancashire; Dr Jingrong Tong of the University of Sheffield; and City St George's Journalism's Dr Rana Arafat, Dr Lindsey Blumell, Dr Glenda Cooper, Dr Lea Hellmueller, Dr Ayala Panievsky and Prof Jane Singer.
Attendance at City St George's events is subject to our terms and conditions.
