Raisah is a postgraduate Health Management student at City, St George’s University of London at our Clerkenwell campus. She chose to study at City St George’s due to our strong reputation, diverse community, and focus on professional development.
What were you doing before you came to study at City St George’s?
Prior to joining City, St George’s, I worked as a research assistant at the University of the West Indies and as a part time dental associate at a private practice.
How did you develop an interest in your course and why did you choose to study this course?
I developed an interest in Health Management as I wanted to broaden my impact and influence beyond the clinical field and individual patient. I have a keen interest in improving my leadership skills and the functioning of healthcare systems.
Why did you choose to study at City St George's?
I chose to study this programme at City St George’s, University of London because of its strong reputation and its very diverse and inclusive environment, as shown by the student and staff population. Also, City St George’s prides itself on being very student-oriented and focuses on supporting students throughout their academic journey. Lastly, their focus on professional development greatly influenced my decision, as I am in a postgraduate programme aiming to change career fields.
What has been your favourite thing about studying this course?
My favourite thing about studying this course has been the opportunity to learn and collaborate with professionals across various backgrounds. My course has challenged me academically and professionally, making my learning experience very enjoyable.
What is your favourite thing about studying at City St George’s?
My favourite thing about studying at City St George’s is the very friendly and diverse student community. Not a day has passed at City St George’s where I have not felt included and welcomed. The atmosphere is very lively and supportive, with many extracurricular activities, social clubs, and events that enable you to make friends and lifelong connections.
What kind of things are you involved in outside of your course?
Outside my course, I am involved in working at year-round university events for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as prospective students. I also attend exercise classes at City Sport as well as run 5Ks with my local park group in central London.
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
After I graduate, I intend to pursue a career in health management, applying and utilising the skills I have gained through my academic career and non-academic experiences at City St George’s. In the long term, I intend to take on more leadership positions whereby I can make meaningful improvements in healthcare systems.
What would be your advice to anyone considering studying this course?
My advice to anyone considering this course would be to embrace every opportunity during the programme and make the most of all the learning opportunities City St George’s provides. Stay organised and engage in class sessions, lecturers as well as guest speakers. The course can be challenging, but having a positive attitude, being proactive, and staying open-minded will be beneficial. It is also of great importance to keep your long-term plans and goals in mind, so you can maximise your experience at City St George’s and build a strong foundation for your career and life.
