What motivated you to pursue studies at University?
I pursued studies at the university driven by a passion for learning, a desire for personal growth, and a commitment to acquiring knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to society.

I selected City St George's because of its esteemed reputation in the UK and internationally, particularly in the field of shipping. The Master's programme offered aligns closely with my interests, and the modules are compelling.
Prior to applying, I visited the university to ensure it was the right fit for me, and I was affirmed in my decision. The campus boasts excellent facilities and is conveniently situated near shops and cafes for breaks and meals. Additionally, the manageable size of the campus ensures ease of navigation—an aspect I find crucial for efficient academic engagement.
The proximity of three tube stations to the university facilitates convenient transportation. Moreover, the university's extensive gym facilities, including multiple classes and discounted rates for students, offer a convenient option for fitness enthusiasts.

How are you finding studying in the UK?
Studying in the UK has been a remarkable experience thus far. As an international student from Greece, I've found the transition both challenging and rewarding. Adjusting to a new educational system and cultural environment has broadened my perspective and enriched my academic journey.

What has been your favourite module or aspect of your course so far?
My preferred module thus far is "Environmental Issues of Shipping," which offers a comprehensive overview of conventions and regulations pertaining to maritime compliance.
This subject matter is particularly captivating, as it underscores the critical significance of environmental concerns and elucidates the diverse array of regulations governing various forms of pollution.
Overall, I appreciate the modules for their provision of specific and pertinent information pertinent to the shipping industry, rendering it more appealing and practical for students.

Another enriching experience facilitated by City St George's was the opportunity to partake in the celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Amidst the festivities, City St George's organised a vibrant Chinese cultural event at the pavilions, providing attendees with a firsthand glimpse into Chinese traditions and customs. This event not only showcased the vibrancy of Chinese culture but also offered a chance for cultural exchange and appreciation.

During the previous summer, I had the privilege of undertaking an internship at a renowned Greek shipping company, an experience that offered invaluable insights into the intricate workings of the shipping industry.
While the university offers dedicated departments aimed at assisting students in securing suitable placements and navigating the application process, my decision to pursue an one year placement stemmed from personal preference, having already embarked on a summer internship in Greece the preceding year.

Recognising that insurance serves as a bulwark against the myriad risks inherent in shipping, including those arising from geopolitical instability such as conflicts and acts of terrorism, underscores its paramount significance.
I am fervently drawn to the prospect of contributing to the safeguarding of maritime assets and operations through the meticulous assessment and mitigation of risk factors inherent in the insurance realm.
