Overview
Yasmine is a PhD researcher at the Department of Journalism funded by the School of Communication & Creativity. She holds a Master in Communication from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG/Brazil) and a BA in Journalism from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP/Brazil). During her masters, she investigated gender performativities and audiovisual culture, and acted as a researcher in the research group on media, gender and activism. As an undergraduate, she developed a monograph on online hate speech in articles on the Brazilian news portal G1, and the research was awarded the Adelmo Genro Filho prize in 2021, from the Brazilian Association of Journalism Researchers (SBPJor). Yasmine also acted as an undergraduate research assistant funded by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Yasmine researches, above all, themes related to feminist and gender studies, media, misogyny on the internet, hate speech, audiovisual culture, childhoods and narratives.
As a journalist, she worked at the Nuclear Technology Development Center (CNEN/CDTN), reporting on health, the environment and science and technology. At CDTN, Yasmine also worked as a press and public relations advisor, building and implementing the institution's organizational communication plan and maintaining the relationship between CDTN, journalistic outlets and stakeholders. She has experience with social media production, production and editing of radio journalism and television journalism at Mariana City Hall and at Agência Primaz de Comunicação. As a journalist in these vehicles, she reported on topics such as politics, sports, cities, health and the environment.

Summary of research
In this research, Yasmine is interested in investigating if contemporary journalistic narratives and dynamics help to legitimise masculinist hate speech on social media. In order to do that, she intends to analyse one of the most media-reported trials with Hollywood actors: the one that involved Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
