About
Overview
Nouf is in her final year of her PhD. She previously served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, from September 2025 to January 2026, under the supervision of Pamela Samuelson, as part of her PhD research in Copyright Law. She is a future trainee solicitor at White & Case (GCC) and has previously earned an LLM in Intellectual Property Law from University College London (Merit) and an LLB in Law from City, University of London (First Class). Alongside her research, Nouf teaches LLB and LLM students at both City St George's and the University of Hertfordshire.
Nouf's research is interdisciplinary, combining Philosophy and Law. It focuses on the concept of 'work' (Subject Matter). As the Copyright, Designs, and Patents Act (1988) is arguably a closed system (meaning only certain works gain copyright protection), Nouf's research will examine whether it is justified to have such a system. Her research explores whether other creative works can be copyrighted (unusual subject matter such as a taste of food, body art, memes, etc.) and what 'work' means under copyright law. The research is not merely about extending the accepted and clear fundamentals to cover unusual copyrightable works, but to use these unusual works as a basis to identify the core by its very nature: How does copyright law think about subject matter?
Dr. Patrick Goold supervises Nouf's research.
