Marianne Brown (also known as Marianne Tyler Brown) Cellist

Career researcher and professional musician with a proactive collaborative and integrative approach. Marianne combines her expertise as performer, alongside her teaching practice, academic research and work in counselling. In her counselling practice she has experience of supporting clients with a wide range of issues.
Marianne combines her expertise as performer, alongside her teaching practice, academic research and work in counselling. Marianne studied the cello as an undergraduate at The Royal Academy of Music and postgraduate at Royal Northern College of Music, Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary. She was awarded a Masters in Cultural Management from City University, Masters in Science in Psychosocial Studies from Birkbeck /University College London writing about music in wellbeing and community settings and the vital role music can play in society, healing and personal development. Marianne continues her academic work and research in music and transformation at City University where she is conducting her PhD research in this field. Her research area concerns transformation and music projects in women's refuges. This is an area Marianne has worked in for over a decade producing music projects in the refuge environment.
Marianne has performed with leading orchestras and ensembles including The Halle, Welsh National Opera and Bratislava Chamber orchestra. Her work has also led to recordings for BBC Radio, Television and ITV. Solo and chamber performances include venues throughout the UK and Europe including The Royal Albert Hall with English Festival Orchestra, London Coliseum with English National Ballet, St James Piccadilly, Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Academy of Arts, Burgh House, Lauderdale House, Stanjel, Castle Slovenia and Palace of The Arts in Budapest. Marianne's current outreach work extends to her post as musician in residence at The Royal Marsden Hospital, London; recently presenting a lecture recital at City University early 2024 exploring her work in this field alongside live cello performance.

Marianne has been active in her second year of PhD studies producing music workshops for the refuge environment, lecture recitals linked to her research and presenting papers at regularly at internal and external conferences. Marianne has recently been commissioned to publish an article/blog for the Costa Rica Women's Museum October 2024 and continues to develop work with the organisation. Marianne continues to teach the cello from beginners to advanced levels and regularly performs in solo and chamber music recitals and often takes on orchestral work and lecture recitals, alongside her academic work. Marianne is developing her own publications , collaborations and podcasts during this research period.
