Overview
Alireza is a PhD student in Economics at City, University of London. Prior to his doctoral studies, Alireza completed an MSc in Behavioural Science at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. His research investigates how immigration laws reshape marriage markets and, through this channel, immigrants' socio-economic integration.
Marriages between immigrants and natives carry profound implications for economic integration and social cohesion. Alireza's project investigates how partnerships with native-born individuals shape immigrants' labour market outcomes by tracking partnered immigrants over time using the UK Household Longitudinal Study. His research further exploits Brexit as a natural experiment to examine how immigration policy reshapes marriage markets: the removal of EU citizens' automatic residence rights after January 2021 created a unique setting to test whether changes in legal status alter patterns of assortative mating and, through this channel, economic integration.
