About

Overview

Dr. Themis Karaminis joined City, University of London in December 2023. His research primarily focuses on understanding the unique experiences of autistic and neurodivergent people, and on the concept of neurodiversity. A broader theme in his work is the study of individual differences in cognitive development and learning, combining experimental and computational methodologies.

Dr. Karaminis originally comes from a teaching background, with specific expertise in informatics for secondary and further education. He later transitioned to the field of developmental psychology and academia after completing an MSc in Cognitive Science at the University of Edinburgh and a PhD at Birkbeck, University of London, where he specialised in atypical language development.

Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Karaminis held three postdoctoral research positions. He worked at the UCL Institute of Education, exploring visual perception in autism; at the Universities of Plymouth and Oxford, investigating bilingual lexical development; and at Radboud University in the Netherlands, focusing on speech perception. Prior to joining City, University of London, he held a Senior Lecturer position at Edge Hill University.
