Overview

Sally is a Speech and Language Therapist with expertise of working with children and young people with complex special educational and healthcare needs. She joined the university in 2014 as a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2019. She completed her PGCert in Academic Practice in 2015 and became a Senior Fellow of Advance HE in 2021. From October 2020-December 2025 Sally was a Barts Charity funded N/AHP Clinical Doctoral Fellow.

Sally worked within the NHS as a Speech and Language Therapist in London for 19 years before moving to her City role. She specialises in working with children with complex needs across the age range. Her work has included supporting children, young people and their families regarding eating and drinking difficulties (dysphagia), alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), Autism and a range of neurodevelopmental disabilities. She is a registered Makaton regional tutor. She has an honorary contract with NELFT (Redbridge) offering regular group clinical supervision in the area of dysphagia.

Sally was a committee member of the UK Swallowing Research Group (UKSRG) for six years until February 2020. She is a Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT) Research Champion and Clinical Academic Mentor. Her work with RCSLT includes: co-author on the updated Learning Disabilities clinical guidelines, acknowledged input into the addressing health inequalities: the role of speech and language therapy resource and the RCSLT representative on the Exec Committee of the British Academy of Childhood Disability (BACD).

Sally is a member of the RCSLT's disabled workforce working group including input into the 'Supporting SLTs with disabilities in the workplace document and divisional co-rep on the School of Health & Medical Sciences' Equality Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

Sally offers Makaton training through City Health courses, a signing and symbol system for people with communication difficulties.

Research

Sally Morgan has recently finished her Barts Charity N/AHP Clinical Doctoral Fellowship. As a Senior Lecturer she supervises a range of student research projects (BSc, MSc and MRes). Her own research include a focus on 'Mealtime Advice Mat use' and 'Meal environments'.

Her PhD thesis is due for submission this academic year titled: Safe, Efficient and Enjoyable Mealtimes: Creating a toolkit for families of children who need assistance with eating and drinking - a multi-method investigation (not as easy as it may 'SEEM').
