About

Overview

Sally McManus is a professor of social epidemiology and Director of the interdisciplinary Violence and Society Centre. She is part of the School of Health and Medical Sciences, and affiliated with the School of Policy and Global Affairs. 

Sally specialises in quantitative survey methods and the measurement of mental health and wellbeing. She examines population trends in health and health behaviours and the social context of mental health, including the role played by violence, abuse and socioeconomic adversity. Sally is a Deputy Director of the UKPRP-funded consortium on Violence, Health and Society (VISION).

She is also a Senior Research Fellow at the National Centre for Social Research, where she advises on England’s national mental health survey and cohort programmes. She was PI on NIHR research grants on trends and context in women’s mental health, and on risk and resilience in self-harm and suicide.
