About

Overview

Michael Powner is a Professor in Regenerative Medicine, joining the Optometry department at City St George's, University of London in February 2016. Michael gained his BSc in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Durham University in 2006. Followed by a PhD in Neurobiology from University College London in 2011 (thesis title: Molecular characterisation of the human macula). Following his doctorate Michael worked as a postdoctoral research associate in regenerative medicine at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London, before taking on a lectureship at City in 2016.

Research Overview

Professor Powner's team aims to develop new or adapt current, non-invasive interventions to improve patients health and quality of life. His research includes exploring the use of electromagnetic stimuli, and understanding the biological mechanisms behind its effect on biology.
