Overview
Maryam Hosseini has joined department of mathematics as a visiting lecturer in September 2024. She primarily serves as a teacher at City, instructing undergraduate math modules. Her research lies in applications of operator algebras in studying dynamical systems, particularly dynamics on the Cantor set. The operator algebraic object used in studying Cantor systems is dimension group which is a prtially ordered group. The corresponding dimension group describes how orbits interact under the action. In other words, the system's representations can integrate with the ordered treatment of the orbits. The Bratteli diagram representation of the dimension group also reflects the associated dynamical systems, as each system is linked to a specific partial ordering on the diagram. This representation has uncovered significant links between dynamical systems and dimension groups in the study of topological factoring and the eigenvalue group of Cantor dynamical systems.
This area is in close relation with symbolic dynamics. So it has established applications to computer sciences and other areas of mathematics such as combinatorics.
