About

Overview

Dr Lúcia Garrido is a Reader (Associate Professor) in the Department of Psychology at City, University of London.

Lúcia studied Psychology at the University of Porto in Portugal, and then did an MSc in Cognitive Neuropsychology at University College London (UCL). She completed her PhD at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, working with Professor Brad Duchaine. From 2010 to 2013, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Vision Sciences Laboratory at Harvard University, working with Professor Ken Nakayama.

Lúcia was a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer at Brunel University London from 2013 to 2019.

Lúcia's research areas include cognitive neuroscience, visual perception, and social perception. More specifically, Lúcia's research attempts to shed light on the perceptual mechanisms that we use in our social interactions. She is interested in how we use information from faces and voices to recognise who someone is, to infer their emotional and mental states, and to decide how we should act towards them. Lúcia uses behavioural and neuroimaging methods to investigate these questions.
