About
Overview
Jenny's research sits at the intersection of computational modelling, cardiac physiology and clinical medicine. She develops biophysically detailed models of cardiac electrophysiology and mechanics, spanning from ion channel behaviour in single cells to the electromechanical function of the whole heart, and uses finite element simulation to link changes at the molecular level to measurements taken in the clinic. A central strand of her work is the cardiac digital twin: a personalised model built from an individual's imaging and ECG data using statistical inference methods such as sequential Monte Carlo approximate Bayesian computation, which can then be used to make mechanistic predictions about that individual's cardiac health.
Her particular focus is on female-specific life events, especially pregnancy and the postpartum period. Pregnancy places substantial demands on the maternal heart, and hypertensive disorders such as pre-eclampsia are associated with lasting cardiovascular risk that remains poorly understood. Jenny's longer-term aim is to develop digital twins that can follow cardiac health across the life course and help predict which treatments or lifestyle changes will benefit a given patient at preconception, during pregnancy and after birth. This work is carried out in close collaboration with clinicians and researchers based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and King's College London.
Jenny completed her PhD at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in 2018 and then spent over eight years at the University of Oxford in the Computational Cardiovascular Science group, first with Professor Alfonso Bueno-Orovio and subsequently with Professor Blanca Rodriguez. Her research there progressed from electrophysiological modelling of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, through electromechanical modelling of the infarcted heart, to the development and validation of cardiac digital twin pipelines. She joined City St George's in September 2026 and retains a visitor affiliation at Oxford.
