Overview

Dr Iasonas* F. Triantis a Reader at the Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering (RCBE), Engineering Dep., School of Science and Technology (SST) City St George's, University of London. He jointly leads the SST-SHPS cross-School "Targeted Therapy Technology" Research Group with Dr Mike Powner, a neurobiologist from the School of Health & Psychological Sciences. The Research Group aims to improve human health through personalized therapy for conditions like diabetes, wound healing, and peripheral arterial disease, and in parallel using bio-interfacing techniques in agricultural/environmental applications for crop sustainability and food security.

He is conducting interdisciplinary research in medical devices for biomodulation and diagnostics. His technical expertise includes circuits and methods for electromagnetic stimulation in implantable and wearable devices; bioimpedance; bio-dielectric spectroscopy; electrical impedance tomography; and he makes use of FEM sensor-tissue simulations for sensor optimization. He has recently raised >£1.4M in research funding from NiHR, UKRI (Innov. UK, EPSRC), and industry and a further £1.6M for developing and equipping laboratories.

He was one of the sixteen 2023 awardees of the Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Fellowship carrying out research at Delta-T devices Ltd to develop plant health biosensors.

Having been at City as a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer since 2012, he was previously (2010-12) a Senior Researcher at the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department, UCL, focusing on analogue integrated circuit design of front end ASICs for electrical impedance tomography (EIT). Between 2005-10 he was a Research Associate at Imperial College focusing on multi-modal neuroprostheses and vagus nerve interfaces. Between 2000-5 he was Research Assistant at UCL, where he also received his PhD on implantable neural amplifiers. In 2000 he received an Electronic Engineering Meng from UMIST.

He has authored/co-authored more than 85 research outputs, including journal publications (mostly Q1 - max IF 17), international conference papers, book chapters, and patents.
