About

Overview

Hannah Thompson is a neuropsychologist whose focus of research is stroke, and its impact on language (e.g., aphasia), and memory (particularly semantic memory). She is also interested in the intersection of deficits or capabilities across cognition, including executive function and creativity.

Hannah completed her PhD, postdoc and fellowship at the University of York. She has since been a lecturer at Surrey, Reading and Open University, before joining City in 2023.

Hannah is interested in applications from potential PhD students exploring (1) what we can learn from aphasic speech output about the semantic system, (2) the development of semantic control and its relationship to creativity, (2) the impact of stroke aphasia on everyday experiences – including identity, motivation and social cognition, (3) treatments for aphasia, and (4) functionally intact brain regions and networks in aphasia and their relationship to behaviour. She also welcomes students with their own interests relating to these themes to get in touch.
