About

Overview

Dr Emma-Jane Berridge is a midwife and academic with a prior academic career in educational research and education development. Emma-Jane started her career with a PhD in health informatics, developing e-learning for patients and practice nurses about diabetes self-care. This led to a productive partnership with Prof Della Freeth and later also Dr Nici Mackintosh, evaluating learning for healthcare practice, particularly using high-fidelity simulation.

Work in maternity settings looking at team training for patient safety piqued an interest in midwifery; after training as a midwife and working clinically in hospital, caseloading, and community settings, Emma-Jane returned to City in 2021 as Senior Lecturer in Midwifery.

Emma-Jane is currently Programme Director for the MSc Midwifery & MSc Enhanced Midwifery Care. She teaches on the undergraduate and postgraduate pre-registration programmes as well as on the Masters programme, and continues to be involved in education development in the team and more widely in the school.
